A new free digital suicide prevention training programme has been launched to help tackle the mental health crisis facing construction workers, particularly sole traders and the self-employed who can be harder to reach through traditional workplace support schemes. Developed by Mates in Mind in partnership with Baton of Hope, the training aims to increase awareness of mental health challenges, improve suicide prevention knowledge and encourage workers to seek support when needed. The programme responds to concerning industry statistics. Research shows that nearly two-thirds of construction workers regularly experience stress, around half experience anxiety, and almost one-third have had suicidal thoughts at some point. The training consists of two online modules covering suicide awareness and suicide prevention. It is free to access and can be completed on a mobile phone or laptop, making it easier for workers to take part regardless of where they are based. [projectscot.com], [hsmsearch.com]
