A landlord and managing agent in Tottenham have been hit with £12,500 in fines after Haringey Council discovered their Clonmell Road property was operating as an unlicensed House in Multiple Occupation (HMO) with serious safety hazards, including inadequate fire protection and dangerous stairs. The managing agent received a £10,000 penalty, while the property owner was fined £2,500. An appeal by the agent to the First Tier Tribunal was dismissed as “misguided,” and they have since been added to the Greater London Authority’s Rogue Landlord and Agent Checker. Following enforcement, the property has now been licensed and all identified hazards corrected through an Improvement Notice. [haringey.gov.uk]
Councillor Sarah Williams reaffirmed the council’s strong stance, stating that Haringey “will not tolerate landlords or agents who put residents at risk.” [localgov.legal]
