RIDDOR: public consultation now open

A consultation has been launched on The Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 2013 (RIDDOR) 

The consultation seeks stakeholder views on a range of proposals to help reduce work-related ill health, as one of HSE’s key strategic objectives.

It also looks for options to reduce the burden on businesses in making these reports to the regulator, through simplifying the reporting process.

Control of Lead at Work Regulations: consultation open for comments

HSE has launched a public consultation to amend the Control of Lead at Work Regulations 2002 (CLAW).

The consultation is now open for comments and is relevant to employers and those directly involved in sectors that use lead. HSE is seeking stakeholder views on proposals relating to:

  • monitoring and lowering the blood lead exposure levels in CLAW
  • amending the Approved Code of Practice (ACOP) and guidance

We are also taking the opportunity to gather evidence on ‘lead in air’ monitoring.

Prevent work-related stress: Advice from an HSE inspector

April is Stress Awareness Month and in a new video an HSE Inspector shares practical guidance on managing stress and supporting workplace wellbeing.

In the video Jenny Skeldon, Principal Inspector for Health and Safety, explains what organisations can expect during an HSE inspection and how proactive leadership can make a real difference, covering:

  • the 6 key areas of stress: demands, control, support, relationships, role, and change
  • how inspections follow the Plan, Do, Check, Act approach to managing risks
  • practical leadership actions using the 5 Rs: Reach out, Recognise, Respond, Reflect, make it Routine

New regulations: carbon capture utilisation and storage and offshore hydrogen production regulations

On 6 April 2026 new regulations for carbon capture utilisation and storage (CCUS) and offshore hydrogen production came into force.

These extend existing health and safety requirements to CCUS sites, CO₂ pipelines (onshore and offshore), and offshore hydrogen production.

HSE has updated its guidance to help those responsible understand their duties, including safety case requirements, pipeline compliance and incident reporting.

No Falls Week 2026: 18 to 22 May

Falls from height continue to be the most common cause of fatal accidents to workers in Great Britain.

HSE’s annual statistics show that 35 workers were killed in falls from height in 2024 to 2025.

The No Falls Foundation charity is running its annual No Falls Week, a campaign dedicated to promoting safe working at height.

HSE inspectors checking asbestos management

Inspectors visiting premises and construction sites check that asbestos is being managed in compliance with the law and workers are kept safe.

HSE is advising dutyholders to check they are compliant in areas that inspectors find need improving when visiting premises
