Company fined £300,000 after worker falls through open stairwell
A construction company has been fined £300,000 after a worker sustained serious spinal injuries from falling through an open stairwell and landing on concrete flooring.
HSE’s investigation found:
- the company had failed to put adequate measures in place to prevent falls from height
- the stairwell opening had not been securely covered and the open edges were not protected
Falls from height remains one of the leading workplace fatalities in the construction industry.
