Cornwall petrol station fined £100k after people were found sleeping inside it

A company and the director behind a petrol station and garage in Cornwall have been ordered to pay more than £100,000 in fines and costs after putting lives at risk. An inspection by Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service (CFRS) revealed that in 2022 people had been sleeping illegally inside the garage in Lanner without suitable fire precautions in place.

The company operating Lanner Garage ST Forecourt LTS, near Redruth, pleaded guilty to five offences under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005. It was fined £100,000 (reduced from £150,000 to account for an early guilty plea).
